After a summer of hot and humid days, fall is a welcome change in Chicago and the perfect time to get outside. Check out our favorites!
Take A LEISURELY Bike Ride
Although biking is a great workout, we recommend taking off your competitive hat and riding at a comfortable pace. Riding under the brilliant red and gold trees will lift your spirits and make you feel alive again. Be sure to include a pit stop at your favorite ice cream parlor and grab a cone before they close for the season.
No bike? We might be spoiled by Divvy Bikes in Chicago but lots of cities offer bike rentals. It’s WAY easier than you may think & pretty inexpensive too. Check out one in your neighborhood!
Walk thru Your Neighborhood
Walking isn’t just great exercise but it’s a great way to see the fall colors. Walking at a steady pace for 45 minutes can be just as beneficial as running. Include parks and head to Map My Walk for the best trails in your neighborhood.
Near a nature preserve or park? Try being a tourist in your own preserve and bring a camera to capture the fall leaves. Find one near you by visiting the Nature Conservancy and to learn more about protecting our natural treasures.
Use the Fire Pit in Your Backyard
If you live in California or a super dry part of the world, PLEASE skip this!!
If you don’t, fall is the perfect time for making Smores over an open fire. Cooler nights make a fire pit a welcome addition to any gathering. Even if it’s just for you, you’ll feel a million miles away sitting by one, wrapped in a cozy blanket and munching on this tasty, easy-to-make-treat.
Enjoy Company & A Drink on Your Front Porch
Yep, I’m a fan of a good front porch in the summer (did you get to read all about it!?) but cooler weather doesn’t have to lock you up inside. Grab a warm sweater, a few friends and a good bottle of wine and sit awhile on your front porch. It’s a great way to appreciate the fall colors and connect with friends.
Pick Up Some Fall 16 Basics
Enjoying cooler weather is possible if you’re dressed for it. We like to layer our favorite sweaters over our tanks and tees. Check out the Elina Hoodie, the Maglione Sweater and the Coperta Poncho for soft, cozy covers that keep you looking great thru fall and beyond. The best activities can be ruined if you’re cold so dressing right for the occasion is about combining function and fashion. Get out and enjoy the cooler air!
